What is the difference between gold and purple seamoss?
The most common question asked is what is the difference between the different coloured seamoss? All seamoss is great at providing various mineral benefits, but what is the difference?
Gold Seamoss -Is a great daily dietary source, rich in minerals giving your body that extra boost of energy and strengthening the immune system as well as helping to remove waste from the lymphatic system (this is a system of tissues and organs that get rid of toxins from the body). Gold seamoss has a more subtle taste and is unnoticeable when added to foods and beverages. It is also a great gelatine and thickener alternative for plant-based foods.
Purple Seamoss – If you want to use seamoss for medicinal purposes, especially if you are trying to heal from a chronic disease, then purple is more suited for you. It does however have a slightly stronger smell and taste than the gold seamoss. Purple seamoss contains Flavonoids, this is a compound found naturally in red, purple and blue fruits and vegetables. Anthocyanins are a type of flavonoids; rich in antioxidant and can help your body ward off toxins and potentially decrease your risk of some chronic health conditions, cardiovascular disease and even regulate cellular activity, fight off free radicals that cause oxidative stress on your body and dismiss inflammatory reactions. Anthocyanins is what naturally produces the red, purple, and blue pigment.
What is Bladderwrack?
Bladderwrack is a type of edible brown seaweed. Its scientific name is Fucus vesiculosus. It has high iodine content, trace minerals, fibre and Vitamin B12. It is a really good source of iodine – one of the best!
Iodine is a mineral that the body needs in order to make thyroid hormones. They modulate the body’s metabolism, and are also needed for proper bone and brain growth and development. A deficiency can lead to symptoms similar to hypothyroidism, which is a result of low thyroid hormones. These include fatigue, hair loss, feeling cold, dry skin, unexplained weight gain, and memory or learning difficulties.
Iodine is present naturally in soil and seawater, therefore sea vegetables are some of the most reliable and natural sources of Iodine.
